monsoon trough[edit | edit source]
The portion of the intertropical convergence zone that extends into a monsoon circulation as depicted by a line on a weather map. The area features directional wind shear, convergence, and relatively low sea level pressure sitting between trade winds on the poleward side and monsoonal winds on the equatorward side. The resulting cyclonic vorticity is conducive for tropical cyclogenesis in addition to rain and strong wind.
