Washoe zephyr

In the United States, a strong downslope wind on the eastern (Nevada) side of the Sierra Nevada in northern California.

This term has been applied to two different types of wind: 1) a foehn or chinook wind during the cold season; and 2) an afternoon wind down the east-facing canyons and valleys during the warm season. The latter may result from afternoon convective mixing or may be related to California sea-breeze effects.

A cold wind descending from a mountain glacier (glacier wind) or snowfield, for example, in the higher valleys of Ecuador.

A division of the year according to some regularly recurrent phenomena, usually astronomical or climatic.
