The property of a field such that neighboring values of a parameter differ only by an arbitrarily small amount if they are close enough in space and/or time.
In synoptic meteorology, continuity of a field is interpreted as requiring a certain smoothness of analysis and a similar adjustment in the time sequence of synoptic charts.
