rapid interval scan

The mode of data gathering by GOES whereby an image is produced at intervals of 1–10 minutes instead of the normal intervals of 15 (formerly 30) minutes.

Rapid interval scanning is used primarily for research and to observe rapidly developing severe weather, tropical storm, or flash flood situations.
