relative coordinate system

Any coordinate system that is moving with respect to an inertial coordinate system.
In practice, atmospheric motion is always referred to a relative system fixed to the surface of the earth. Referred to a relative system, various apparent forces arise in Newton's laws owing to motion of the system. See, for example, centrifugal force, Coriolis force.
