medium-range forecast

From Glossary of Meteorology
A forecast for a period extending from about three days to seven days in advance; there are no absolute limits to the period embraced by the definition.

Any function of time f(t) is periodic with period t if f(t) = f(t + τ) for all times t, where τ is the smallest number for which this equality holds.
